Managing Partner David Vávra Emphasized the Power of Central Bank Independence at NBU-NBP Conference

OGResearch Managing Partner and Advisor to the NBU Governor, David Vávra, featured as a panelist at the 10th Annual Research Conference, jointly hosted by the National Bank of Ukraine (NBU) and Narodowy Bank Polski (NBP).

He participated in a panel discussion focused on the role of central bank independence in supporting modern monetary policy frameworks. Moderated by Luca Gattini (Head of Economics Department, European Investment Bank), the panel brought together distinguished international policymakers and leaders:

• Anca Dragu, Governor of the National Bank of Moldova  
• Annika Eriksgård, Deputy Director-General for Investment and International at the Directorate-General for Economic and Financial Affairs (DG ECFIN) of the European Commission
• Paweł Szałamacha, Member of the Management Board of Narodowy Bank Polski & former Minister of Finance of Poland
• Oleksandr Kravchenko, Minister of Economy of Ukraine
• David Vávra, OGResearch Managing Partner & Advisor to the NBU Governor

During his intervention, David asserted that financial markets are the best gauge of central bank independence and, as such, a central bank's best friend in pursuing independent policies. Consequently, he emphasized that central banks in emerging and developing economies must treat financial market development as a critical tenet safeguarding their independence, as the absence of markets makes the fight for independence far more difficult.
